Paul Lagnese is a partner with Berger & Lagnese, LLC. Mr. Lagnese focuses on representing people who have been injured because of the mistakes of doctors and hospitals. One area of special interest for Mr. Lagnese has been representing children who have suffered severe brain injuries at the time of birth due to the carelessness of doctors and nurses. One of his cases resulted in a $6,000,000 jury verdict against Indiana Hospital and one of its doctors for a little girl who was caused to suffer from severe
Cerebral Palsy because of the negligence of the doctor and the hospital nurses during the girl’s birth. Mr. Lagnese has also represented four other children who suffered brain-damage because of the carelessness of doctors and hospitals. Each of those cases resulted in settlements in excess of $3,000,000.
In May of 2008, Mr. Lagnese obtained
verdict of $2,500,000 against UPMC for the family of a 24 year old man. The jury found that the young man’s death was caused by the failure of UPMC to have properly trained and supervised a newly hired nurse. in November of 2011, in the same case, he obtained a verdict of $10,000,000 against UPMC for the young man's lifetime earnings loss. This verdict is the highest verdict in a medical malpractice case in Allegheny County since the Pa. Supreme Court began tracking verdict in 2000.
He has also handled cases involving failure to diagnose a heart attack, failure to diagnose a blood clot and a botched carpal tunnel surgery that resulted in a nerve injury. All of those cases resulted in settlements.
Mr. Lagnese graduated from
Lafayette College in 1983. In 1987, he graduated from Duquesne University School of Law. After his graduation from law school, Mr. Lagnese was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable David W. Craig of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. He is admitted and has practiced in Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mr. Lagnese is a member of the American Assocation of Justice, the Pennsylvania Association of Justice and is currently the Treasurer of the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Lagnese is also a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, having been elected to Council of the Young Lawyers Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association from 1995-1997. Mr. Lagnese has received the highest rating (AV) from the national lawyer's directory
Martindale Hubbell. In 2007 Mr. Lagnese was selected for induction into the Allegheny County Academy of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Lagnese was selected to be included in the 2008-2012 editions of
“The Best Lawyers in America” under Medical Malpractice. In 2011 Mr. Lagnese was selected as a "Super Lawyer" as well as the "Top 100 Trial Lawyers" in Pennsylvania by the The National Trial Lawyers association.
