Blaming the Patient: A Too Prevalent Tendency Among Doctors

As medical malpractice lawyers, we often hear doctors say that the patient was to blame for his or her injuries, and not the doctor.  In an opinion piece published in today's New York Times, Dr. Richard A. Friedman, a professor of psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College, suggests that doctors often resort to patient-blaming when their own medical expertise fails to cure the patient or prevent the patient's illness from recurring.

If you suffered an injury during, or as a result of, medical treatment, and your doctor has told you that the injury could not have been avoided or prevented, or was someone else's fault, you may have been the victim of medical malpractice.  The lawyers at Berger & Lagnese can help you determine whether your injuries were the result of medical malpractice.
