Breast Cancer Treatment Knowledge Lacking Among Woman With Breast Cancer

A recent study of 1,132 breast cancer patients done at the University of Michigan shows that many woman poorly understand the risks and benefits of breast cancer treatment options.  The author of the study Dr. Sarah Hawley stated that the information may be delivered to the patients but often is not understood.  The study found that nearly half of the breast cancer patients did not know whether survival rates and recurrance rates were the same after mastectomy or breast conserving surgery.
