Four Tips for Avoiding BPA

Here are four things you can do to avoid BPA:

1.  Don't microwave polycarbonate plastic food containers.  Polycarbonate plastic food containers are commonly marked with the number 7.  Most re-useable microwave-safe plastic food containers are made of polypropylene and are marked with a number 5.  These plastic containers do not contain BPA.

2.  Use as little canned foods and beverages as possible.  Be especially careful to minimize your consumption of acidic canned foods like tomatos and sodas, as acid is know to accelerate the leaching of BPA from the lining material of modern canning.

3.  Use baby bottles and sippy cups that are BPA-free.

4.  As much as possible use glass, porcelain and stainless steel containers, especially with hot foods and liquids.
