More People Sick From Pet Food Salmonella Poisoning

According to the Centers for Disease Control, a rare strain of salmonella in dry pet food has sickened at least eight people this year, in addition to the 71 people who have fallen ill since 2006.  Because of the outbreak of Salmonella schwarzengrund, the company that manufactures the dog food, Mars Petcare, has permanently closed the plant where the pet food was made.

Two months ago, Mars Petcare recalled all of the pet foods made at this particular plant.  The plant is located in Everson, Pa.  Pedigree brand dog food is the leading brand of dog food manufactured by this company.
