New Light System for Finding Colon Cancer Colon Cancer Lawyers

According to a new study reported by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), it will be easier to identify colon cancer.  Currently, colonoscopy is done using white light.  The new system is called autofluorescence imaging, AFI for short.  The lead investigator told Reuters Health that the new imaging system is especially good at finding flat adenomatous polyps.  The system produces pseudo color images.  Non cancerous polyps are green and cancerous polyps are magenta. 

In the study, the AFI system identified 100 polyps.  The conventional white light system only identified 73 polyps.

An additional benefit is that the AFI system is fast and doesn't require changing devices on the colonoscope or spraying dyes.

The researchers plan to do a multi-center randomized trial to further evaluate the new system.
