New Study Reveals Link Between Plastics and Health Problems

Research published in today's Journal of the American Medical Association reveals a link between a chemical used in everyday plastics and higher levels of heart disease, diabetes and liver abnormalities.  The chemical is called bisphenol and is also known as BPA.  Coincidentally, the FDA is meeting today (September 16, 2008) to discuss whether BPA is safe for continued use in food packaging and liquid containers.  Despite an increasing body of evidence that BPA is dangerous, the FDA has continued to deem it safe.
