Pitt Researchers Testing Colon Cancer Vaccine

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine have begun testing on a vaccine that may help prevent colon cancer in people who are at high risk for the disease.  Colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer in the United States.

The vaccine targets a specific protein and harnesses the body's natural defenses as a means of cancer prevention.  If the experimental vaccine is successful, the vaccine could be available in about ten years.
