Texting While Driving May Cause Crash

A study conducted by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) provides information that motorists who use their cell phones or were text messaging are at a higher risk of being involved in a car accident or near-accident event.

According to the researchers, motorists who are text messaging are 23 times higher than non-distracted drivers and had the longest duration of eyes off road time at 4.6 seconds over a 6 second intervals.  This equates to a driver traveling the length of a football field at 55 mph without looking at the road.
