Paul Lagnese obtains $10,000,000 verdict against UPMC.

On Wednesday November 2, 2011, Paul Lagnese obtained a verdict of $10,000,000 against UPMC from a jury in Allegheny County Pennsylvania.  This verdict is that largest verdict in a medical malpractice case in Allegheny County since the Pennsylvania Supreme Court started to tract verdicts in medical negligence cases in 2000.

The verdict was for the lost wages of a 24 year old accountant, Mike Rettger who died as a result of the UPMC' negligence.  Previously Mr. Lagnese had obtained a $2,500,000 verdict in the same case for Mike's Mom's loss of her son.  After almost 3 years of appeals by UPMC it paid over $3,200,000 to satisfy the first judgment.

With delay damages, the judgement against UPMC for Mike's lost wages will be in excess of $12,600,000.
