Paul Lagnese Gets $10 Million Jury Verdict Against UPMC

On November 2, 2011, an Allegheny County jury ordered that UPMC must pay the Estate of Michael Rettger $10 Million as a result of the UMPC's negligently causing the death of Mike Rettger.  This award was for Mike's lost earnings as a result of his death.  It is the largest verdict in Allegheny County for a medical malpractice since January of 2000. 

On May 23, 2008 another jury ordered UPMC to pay Mike's mother $2.5 Million for the loss she suffered as a result of UPMC causing Mike's death.  Thus the total amount of the jury awards against UPMC in this case is $12.5 Million.
