What is a colposcopy?

A colposcopy is a microscopic examination of the cervix using an instrument called a colposcope. It is ordinarily performed as a follow-up to an abnormal Pap smear (Pap test) result. Colposcopy is performed to look for cervical cancer or cells that are known to develop into cervical cancer. During a colposcopy, a cervical biopsy is taken of any areas that appear abnormal.  At Berger & Lagnese, LLC, our team of lawyers and doctors work on medical malpractice cases throughout Western Pennsylvania.
