What is a colposcopy?

A colposcopy is a microscopic examination of the cervix using an instrument called a colposcope. It is ordinarily performed as a follow-up to an abnormal Pap smear (Pap test) result. Colposcopy is performed to look for cervical cancer or cells that are known to develop into cervical cancer. During a colposcopy, a cervical biopsy is taken of any areas that appear abnormal.  At Berger & Lagnese, our team of lawyers and doctors work on medical malpractice cases throughout Western Pennsylvania.

Pittsburgh Medical Malpractice Lawyers Represent Victims of Cancer Diagnosis Across Western PA

When it is detected early enough, cervical cancer has one of the higher survival rates among different types of cancer. However, the chances of beating your cancer go significantly downward when a timely diagnosis is not reached. Although we depend on our hospitals and doctors to provide us with prompt diagnostics, medical professionals are only human. Even the staff at top Pittsburgh hospitals, such as UPMC Mercy and St. Clair Hospital, are capable of misdiagnosing or delaying the diagnosis of your cancer.
