What is Ataxic Cerebral Palsy?

Ataxic Cerebral Palsy is the least common form of Cerebral Palsy. With Ataxic Cerebral Palsy, the fine motor skills are most affected. If your child has Ataxic Cerebral Palsy, they will likely have difficulty with shoe tying, shirt buttoning, cutting with scissors, and any other activity that requires intact fine motor skills. They also may have balance and coordination problems. Children with Ataxic Cerebral Palsy may also suffer from something called "intention tremors," a shaking that begins with a voluntary movement. If your child reaches for a toy, for example, their hand and arm may begin to shake. As they get closer to the toy, the tremor worsens.
