$3,200,000 Final Judgement Paid by UPMC Shadyside

UPMC Shadyside paid a $3,200,000 judgment as a result of $2,500,000 verdict against UPMC Shadyside for the family of a 24 year old who died because the nurses failed to have the patient seen by a doctor despite a significant change in his condition.  The jury attached a statement to the verdict that stated “it is our belief that UPMC’s policies, culture and lack of supervision resulted in the death of Michael Rettger.”  The increased amount of the judgment includes, post judgment interest and delay damages.
