Medical Malpractice Lawyer — Bladder Cancer Basics

Bladder cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the United States.  Approximately 60,000 new cases of bladder cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year.  Approximately 12,000 people die in the United States each year from bladder cancer. The most common symptom of bladder cancer is blood in the urine.  This is called hematuria.  Other symptoms include pain on urination, frequent urination, and having the urge to urinate but with no result.

Bladder cancer is most commonly diagnosed with cystoscopy, imaging studies such as CT and ultrasound, and urine testing.

When diagnosed and treated when it is still localized in the bladder, bladder cancer is relatively curable, with a 95% five-year survival rate.
