Test to Identify High Risk Bowel Cancer

Scientists have developed a new test which can identify aggressive types of bowel cancer.  According to the scientists, chemotherapy has only been used for treatment of aggressive types of bowel cancer.  The problem was that it was difficult to identify whether the person had an aggressive type of colon cancer.  For that reason, surgery without chemotherapy had been the treatment. Now, scientists have developed a test to identify a stem cell marker called Lamin A.  Those patients with the Lamin A marker have an aggressive form of colon cancer and should be treated with surgery and chemotherapy. The findings were published in the Public Library of Science Journal PLOSone.
